Lydford Church is dedicated to St Petroc, an itinterant Welsh monk who was preaching in the West Country in the 6th Centuary. The current building is thought to be situated where St Petroc sheltered during his stays in this area.

Of interest in the church are intricate carved pew ends and models of the village. Of note is the monument to the local Clock and watch maker, which is now inside the church.
